                                                                  ISAIAH 61

He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,

because he has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners

and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,

to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him.  He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”  Luke 4:16-21 NIV

“Now things were definitely out of the ordinary! The members of the synagogue thought they were going along to a normal Saturday meeting... but they got oh so much more than that! Jesus said 'today this scripture has been fulfilled.' It was a prophecy given by Isaiah that had sat unfulfilled for the previous 700 years. But that morning it was fulfilled. Jesus was saying 'I am the one it speaks of. I am the one who has been anointed to heal the broken-hearted and set the captives free.' He wasn't just quoting Isaiah. He was quoting what Isaiah had heard from Him, and about Him, 700 years ago! The people couldn't believe what they were hearing! Yet they were puzzled - Isn't this Joseph's son? Isn't this the carpenter? 'Jeziel, didn't Jesus do that extension on your home and build that fence?' 'Zachias, didn't Jesus build that cart for you?' 'He can't be the Messiah could He?' 'And yet, no one has spoken like this before. How gracious are His words!'”   (Isaiah 61 - Reasons for Rejoicing by I Gordon)

Isaiah’s prophecy was fulfilled by Jesus in the synagogue that day.  It was a proclamation to the members of the synagogue that He is the Messiah, the Son of the Living God who was in their midst but they did not receive it.  Their eyes were not open to the very fulfillment of that prophecy.

Jesus gave the disciples the authority to do what He did.  He commissioned them to go and spread the Gospel message.   Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.  When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.  Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  Matthew 28:16-20 NIV

Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.  Matthew 10:8 NIV

I believe that Jesus was showing us that not only was He anointed to do God’s work on the earth, but we have the same authority given by Jesus because His Holy Spirit dwells within us.  Jesus led by example.  He taught us how to live and how to love.  He is the embodiment of Who God is living in us.  Therefore, we should act in that anointing bringing the Gospel of the Kingdom which includes salvation as well as the healing of the mind, spirit and soul.

We are His emissaries representing the Kingdom of God not only in our words but more importantly in our actions.  Please pray the following prayer accepting and decreeing the anointing and authority that you have in Jesus Christ.

PRAYER:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me

To proclaim the Gospel of the Kingdom

To make disciples of nations

Baptizing them in the name of the Father

And of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit

All authority has been given to me

To heal the sick, raise the dead, and drive out demons

Freely I have received, freely I give”

                                                           CONSUMING FIRE

For our “God is a consuming fire.  Hebrews 12:29 NIV

For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God. Deuteronomy 4:24 NIV

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.   Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.   All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.  Acts 2:1-4 NIV

There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.”  Exodus 3:2-3 NIV

“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Matthew 3:11 NIV

I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!  Luke 12:49 NIV

"Spirit-filled souls are ablaze for God. They love with a love that glows. They serve with a faith that kindles. They serve with a devotion that consumes. They hate sin with fierceness that burns. They rejoice with a joy that radiates. Love is perfected in the fire of God." —Samuel Chadwick

"My fear is not that our great movement, known as the Methodists, will eventually cease to exist or one day die from the earth. My fear is that our people will become content to live without the fire, the power, the excitement, the supernatural element that makes us great." —John Wesley

“Why did the Lord say, “I came to bring fire” (Luke 12:49)? What does this mean? He is not talking about a natural fire. The Word of God must always be understood in a spiritual context. Therefore, the Lord is speaking about His Fire--His Holy Fire--His Spiritual Fire. How can we say “Holy Fire” if the exact words “Holy Fire” are not found in the Bible? It's very simple. Is the Lord Holy? Yes. Is the Lord an All-Consuming Fire? Yes. Must we say Holy All-Consuming Fire? No, it’s understood that He is both Holy and All-Consuming. He is also many other things, such as Righteousness, Love, Truth, and The Way. We need not refer to all of His attributes when we speak of Him.

Why would Christians misunderstand the Lord when He said that His mission is to cast Fire on the Earth? It's because many Christians have not been taught how to understand the Word of God in a spiritual way. Therefore, many Christians read the Bible with a natural mind, and they take the Word literally in a natural sense. That is why some Christians don’t understand “Holy Fire,” because they can’t find where it literally says those words. A Christian that only understands the Bible in natural terms is like one who sees the light but does not feel the fire. They are distant from the Lord because they don’t yet understand His Word in a spiritual sense. But if a Christian never felt the Lord’s fire before, then how would he know whether he is experiencing it or not? Humility is the key.”  (“What Is the Fire of God?”  Fire of God Church)

“And another young man that I know … shared with me his experience with glory fire. And he said he was privileged to see the Lord moving signs and wonders and glory manifestations in his church, even when he was very young. And he said that during revival meetings, the fire department was contacted after several people in the neighborhood saw the roof of the church on fire. And he explained that the church roof was not physically on fire, but it was a supernatural fire. And the Holy Spirit was allowing people in the neighborhood to see it.” (“How ‘Glory Fire’ of Azusa Street Revival Can Be Yours” Charisma News, November 13, 2020)

It has been recorded that St. Francis of Assisi and others were in a building worshiping God and other villagers could see flames of fire on top of the building.

“If it be asked why the fire of God fell on Wales, the answer is simple: Fire falls where it is likely to catch and spread. As one has said, ‘Wales provided the necessary tinder.’ Here were thousands of believers unknown to each other, in small towns and villages and great cities, crying to God day after day for the fire of God to fall. This was not merely a ‘little talk with Jesus,’ but daily, agonizing intercession.”  (10 Things You Should Know about the Welsh Revival of 1904-06 |

God is a consuming fire.  He consumes our very essence and being.  He is passionate about us so we need to be passionate about Him.  When you are passionate about someone you want to be with them and share your intimate thoughts and dreams and so it is with God.

Living in His presence we can have the fuel that we need through the Holy Spirit dwelling in us.  It only takes a spark to set a fire.  Let’s live with the fire and passion of God to set a “fire” of His love upon the earth.  Be a “fire starter!”

THE SCIENCE OF HEALING AND DELIVERANCE

What is deliverance?  Deliverance is defined as “a rescue from bondage or danger.

Did you know that science and deliverance go hand in hand?  It has been proven through science that our thoughts impact every cell in our body.

The science of epigenetics is “The study of the transfer of generational inheritance along the bloodline.”  There are markers on our DNA that can be traced back generationally who experienced trauma or opened a doorway to the enemy (devil).  Science says it transfers down through an individual’s DNA.

A study out of Emery University consisted of two separate DNA petri dishes.  One group was told to think positivity in the presence of the DNA and the other group to think negativity, hatred, etc.  It was observed that in the positivity group, the DNA would lengthen and become at rest and peaceful.   In the negativity group, the DNA began to constrict and bind.”  (“The Science of Deliverance” Jareb Nott)

“The science of forgiveness cracks open the door to healing and it allows us to identify where the problems are and when the enemy has come in and established a foothold.” (Jareb Nott “The Science of Deliverance”)

The Stanford Forgiveness Project concluded that forgiveness heals the body, heals the mind and the heart.  Holding unforgiveness will lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney failure, sleeping disorders, etc.

Science shows that when we forgive those things can be healed.  The American Cancer Society prescribes forgiveness as a part of the treatment for healing because it works.

The science of fear is something the world uses to control and constrict the Body of Christ and those wanting to seek Jesus more fully.  Fear itself has been proven to be detrimental to the body.  “The American Journal of Managed Care (AJMC) states that fear, anxiety disorder, has no good treatment.  (Jareb Nott “The Science of Deliverance”)

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].  2 Timothy 1:7 AMP

Fear is a spirit.  It increase our cortisone, blood pressure and sleep problems.  We can remove the spirit of fear by prayer and commanding it to leave in Jesus’ Name.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.  1 John 4:18 NIV

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.  Romans 12:2 NIV

Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.  Matthew 10:1 NIV

From a Christian perspective, we speak to the generational curses and trauma and cause them to re-set at the DNA level bringing the person back to the perfection that God intended.

We have the power of God within us to speak to the DNA to cause trauma and generational curses to fall off and no longer impact the children of God.

Jareb Nott testifies that there are many, many miracles in his ministry.  There are not only physical but emotional as well.  Both are intertwined.  DNA is the very essence of who we are.  We have the DNA of God in us because we are made in His image.  Science has proven that fear, unforgiveness and negative or positive thinking can be transferred to our DNA generationally.  It is up to us to seek to be healed in body, mind and spirit.

PRAYER FOR DELIVERANCE AND HEALING

JAREB: And right now, I thank you, Lord, that everyone watching and listening is fearfully and
wonderfully made. I declare over you what God's word says, that you were created in God's
likeness. That you were called to represent God's kingdom on this earth. I speak to the demonic
entry points in your family lineage right now and I close them and I command all traumatic
experiences to detach from your genetic code right now, in the name of Jesus.

JAREB: I declare over you that you are not the result of your inherited genes. That you are not a
flawed person by design. I declare that genetic infirmity is not God's plan for you. I speak truth
into your DNA and into your life and into your spirit. You were created in the image of God.
You were fearfully and wonderfully made for a purpose. I speak healing to your genetic code
right now. I command all genetic infirmity to be removed instantly. I command all marks on
your DNA that have attached themselves anywhere in your family lineage to the 10th generation and beyond to be removed and to leave your body now.

JAREB: And God, it is written that when we ask you for healing we will receive. Therefore, I
ask you, Lord, for a complete and thorough reset of their entire genetic code, returning them to
the perfection that you intended at their creation. And now, Lord, I declare over them Proverbs
17:22, "That a cheerful heart is good medicine." And I bless you now, each and every one of you
with an abundant spirit of joy that brings healing and restoration. Amen.

JAREB: I want to tell you that no matter how many generations of trauma are in your life,
trauma from abuse, trauma from pornography, trauma from alcoholism, trauma from infirmity, it stops with you.

It is finished.

                                                            THE “UPSIDE DOWN” GOSPEL

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’  Acts 20:35 NIV

Science supports the benefits of giving.

“For example, research by social psychologist Liz Dunn and her colleagues appearing in the journal Science shows that people's sense of happiness is greater when they spend relatively more on others than on themselves.

In one survey of over 600 U.S. citizens, Dunn and colleagues found that spending money on others predicted greater happiness whereas spending money on oneself did not, and this pattern was found across all income levels. In other words, even those with little money reported greater happiness when their proportion of spending on others, relative to the self, was greater.

In a more controlled experiment, Dunn and colleagues gave students at the University of British Columbia an envelope containing money and told them that they either (1) had to spend the money on themselves before 5 p.m. that day or (2) had to spend the money on someone else before 5 p.m. Those who gifted for others were happier than those who gifted for themselves.

In some cases, there were 5 dollars in the envelope and in other cases there were 20 dollars. The amount didn't matter — the results were the same. Spending on others made people happier than spending on themselves. Ironically, when asked to predict which outcome would make one happier (i.e., spending on oneself or spending on others), another group of students at the same university thought spending on themselves would make them happier than spending on others.”

(Giving Really Is Better than Receiving Does giving to others (compared to oneself) promote happiness? Posted December 25, 2010  Allen R. McConnell, Ph.D.)

But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.  Luke 6:27-28 NIV

Corrie ten Boom, author of The Hiding Place, writes about forgiving a guard at the concentration camp where her sister died.  The following is an excerpt:

But since that time,” he went on, “I have become a Christian. I know that God has forgiven me for the cruel things I did there, but I would like to hear it from your lips as well. Fräulein”–again the hand came out–“will you forgive me?”

And I stood there–I whose sins had every day to be forgiven–and could not. Betsie had died in that place–could he erase her slow terrible death simply for the asking?

It could not have been many seconds that he stood there, hand held out, but to me it seemed hours as I wrestled with the most difficult thing I had ever had to do.

For I had to do it–I knew that. The message that God forgives has a prior condition: that we forgive those who have injured us. “If you do not forgive men their trespasses,” Jesus says, “neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

I knew it not only as a commandment of God, but as a daily experience. Since the end of the war I had had a home in Holland for victims of Nazi brutality.

Those who were able to forgive their former enemies were able also to return to the outside world and rebuild their lives, no matter what the physical scars. Those who nursed their bitterness remained invalids. It was as simple and as horrible as that.

And still I stood there with the coldness clutching my heart. But forgiveness is not an emotion–I knew that too. Forgiveness is an act of the will, and the will can function regardless of the temperature of the heart.

“Jesus, help me!” I prayed silently. “I can lift my hand. I can do that much. You supply the feeling.”

And so woodenly, mechanically, I thrust my hand into the one stretched out to me. And as I did, an incredible thing took place. The current started in my shoulder, raced down my arm, sprang into our joined hands. And then this healing warmth seemed to flood my whole being, bringing tears to my eyes.

“I forgive you, brother!” I cried. “With all my heart!” (Guideposts Classics: Corrie ten Boom on Forgiveness by Posted in

“They say that unforgiveness is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die.  In fact, unforgiveness can actually make you ill.

“Unforgiveness is classified in medical books as a disease. According to Dr. Steven Standiford, chief of surgery at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, refusing to forgive makes people sick and keeps them that way.

With that in mind, forgiveness therapy is now being used to help treat diseases, such as cancer.

"It's important to treat emotional wounds or disorders because they really can hinder someone's reactions to the treatments, even someone's willingness to pursue treatment," Standiford explained.  (The Deadly Consequences of Unforgiveness 06-22-2015 Lorie Johnson CBN)

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, you your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.  Matthew 6:14-15 NIV

Prayer for Rest for My Soul
Righteous Savior, I praise You for the peace You have provided me as I face the challenge of forgiving the wrong done to me. I marvel at Your goodness and take heart that You have overcome the world. I find rest for my soul in You, and ask that You forgive my transgressor, as I am in the process of forgiving him/her. Wash away his/her sins and comfort him/her in his/her sorrow. Thank You, Lord, for blessing this difficult task of forgiveness with a serenity that can only come from You. Amen.  (10 Powerful Prayers for the Forgiveness of Others  Apr 28, 2021 by Editor in Chief Connect Us)

The “upside down” Gospel is the antithesis of the world in which we live.  Be a light in a dark world.  Pray for your enemies.  Forgive those that have hurt you.  Give and you will receive.  I wonder if maybe this is the healing balm that we truly need during this time of chaos in the world as well as in our own lives.

                                                         JUST PUSH

A man was sleeping at night in his cabin when suddenly his room filled with light and the Savior appeared. The Lord told the man he had work for him to do, and showed him a large rock in front of his cabin. The Lord explained that the man was to push against the rock with all his might. This the man did, day after day. For many years he toiled from sun up to sun down, his shoulders set squarely against the cold, massive surface of the unmoving rock, pushing with all his might.

Each night the man returned to his cabin sore, and worn out, feeling that his whole day had been spent in vain. Seeing that the man was showing signs of discouragement, the Adversary decided to enter the picture by placing thoughts into the man’s weary mind: “You have been pushing against that rock for a long time, and it hasn’t budged. Why kill yourself over this? You are never going to move it.” Thus giving the man the impression that the task was impossible and that he was a failure, these thoughts discouraged and disheartened the man.

“Why kill myself over this?” he thought. “I’ll just put in my time, giving just the minimum effort and that will be good enough.” And that is what he planned to do until one day he decided to make it a matter of prayer and take his troubled thoughts to the Lord. “Lord,” he said, “I have labored long and hard in your service, putting all my strength to do that which you have asked. Yet, after all this time, I have not even budged that rock by half a millimeter. What is wrong? Why am I failing?”

The Lord responded compassionately, “My child, when I asked you to serve me and you accepted, I told you that your task was to push against the rock with all your strength, which you have done. Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it. Your task was to push. And now you come to me, with your strength spent, thinking that you have failed. But, is that really so? Look at yourself. Your arms are strong and muscled, your back sinew and brown, your hands are callused from constant pressure, and your legs have become massive and hard. Through opposition you have grown much and your abilities now surpass that which you used to have. Yet you haven’t moved the rock. But your calling was to be obedient and to push and to exercise your faith and trust in My wisdom. This you have done. I, my friend, will now move the rock.”

At times, when we hear a word from God, we tend to use our own intellect to decipher what He wants, when actually what God wants is just simple obedience and faith in Him. By all means, exercise the faith that moves mountains, but know that it is still God who moves the mountains. (Author Unknown)

I thought this story would give someone words of encouragement.  Watching the news and the negative things happening in the world can give us a sense of hopelessness but we know that trusting in God we can overcome every obstacle through prayer, persistent prayer, as in the case of the widow in the Bible who would not give up.

The Parable of the Persistent Widow

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.  He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought.  And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’

“For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think,  yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”

And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says.  And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?  I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”  Luke 18:1-8 NIV
