                                                        PRAYING GOD’S WORD

Marcella Ward   June 10, 2026

Last week I talked about how Jesus prayed.  Did He pray God’s Word?  When Jesus was dying on the cross He said in Matthew 27:46, About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani? (which means My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?) He was quoting from the Psalm 22:1 My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?  Why are You so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?  (NIV)

“The German martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer reminds us that when we pray Scripture, we are praying with Jesus: All prayers of the Bible are such prayers which we pray together with Jesus Christ, in which he accompanies us, and through which he brings us into the presence of God. Otherwise there are no true prayers, for only in and with Jesus Christ can we truly pray. If we want to read and to pray the prayers of the Bible and especially the Psalms, therefore, we must not ask first what they have to do with us, but what they have to do with Jesus Christ.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Eberhard Bethge, Psalms: The Prayer Book of the Bible (Minneapolis, MN: Augsburg Fortress, 1970).  Article drawn from articles in the NIV Lifehacks Bible ebook

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16 (NIV)

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.  He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses.  Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him.  For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.  Psalm 33:6-9 (NIV)

“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.  Proverbs 30:5 (NIV)

Nothing Has Changed

Proverbs 4:22, God says His Words are LIFE to those who find them and HEALTH to their whole body. Normal, everyday, natural words written on paper cannot produce life and health but God’s words can.

In Revelations 19:13, it says that Jesus’ name is called the Word of God.” Psalm 107:20 says that God sent His word and healed them.” It is no surprise that Jesus healed many people during his three-year ministry on earth and continues to do so today.

The Word Changes Us

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.  2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)

Our Words

The words we speak have power.  Our words can be bring life or death.  The tongue has the power of life and death and those who love it will eat its fruit.  Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.  Psalm 119:105 (NIV)

His Will

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.  I John 5:14  (NIV)

Faith and Patience

For we live by faith, not by sight.  II Corinthians 5:7  (NIV)

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.  Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”  Matthew 17:20 (NIV)

“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. Matthew 18:19 (NIV)

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.  Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4  (NIV)  Thy Word is a Lamp Unto My Feet: Scripture Prayer By Cindy VanderHaar June 20, 2012

Persistance—The Parable of The Persistent Widow

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.  He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought.  And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’

“For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”

And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says.  And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?  I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”  Luke 18:1-8 (NIV)

One of the most famous Psalms besides Psalm 23 is Psalm 91:

Psalm 91

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
I will say of the
Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

Surely he will save you
    from the fowler’s snare
    and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 “Because he[b] loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation.”

Miraculous stories of God’s protection speaking God’s word as found in Psalm 91

(Psalm 91: God’s Shield of Protection by sogreatlyloved article, February 20,2018)

There are awe-inspiring testimonies of miraculous deliverance from acute danger in time of war. It has been recorded that during World War 1 (1914-1918), L.T.C. Whittensley was a Regimental Commander in the British Army. Every morning his regiment recited the 91st Psalm, declaring aloud their faith that God would protect them from danger. This regiment went over the wall on a number of occasions during the course of the war, facing furious enemy fire and almost certain death. Thousands of men were killed on their left and right sides, but not a single one of the soldiers in this regiment was wounded. It was reported that the German bullets seemed to bounce off Regimental Commander L.T.C. Whittensley’s men.

A Miraculous Escape from Certain Death in World War 11

An awe-inspiring event took place during World War 11 (1939-1945) at Dunkirk, France. It was reported by war correspondent, C.B. Morelock, that more than four hundred men were trapped on a beach without any shelter from the enemy whatsoever. Sixty German aircraft flew very low directly over the men, firing machine guns, and bombing the trapped soldiers. The men were lying face downwards on the sand, packed closely together. They were facing certain death. All the four hundred men were not only reciting Psalm 91, but shouting it at the top of their voices, proclaiming in faith that God would keep them all safe from the deadly fire of the enemy. Not a single man was even scratched! Navy personnel who rescued the survivors from that Dunkirk beach reported hearing them still shouting the Psalm when they came to their rescue. The Word of God, spoken in faith by our mouth, is as powerful as the written Word of God. Our God always backs His Word when it is spoken out loud in faith. It is in this way that our faith is released, and God honors that.

Hurricane Andrew Hits Florida

On 24 August, 1992, Hurricane Andrew made landfall Near Homestead, Florida. It developed into a category 5 Hurricane with wind speeds reaching 175 mph. It is the second costliest tropical cyclone in United States history.

Only One Family Escaped the Destruction Unscathed

This testimony is astounding. As Hurricane Andrew wreaked havoc, demolishing everything in its path, the entire property of one family remained intact. Every single house over a vast area around them was either razed to the ground or seriously damaged. Garden sheds were tossed high in the air like match boxes, trees were uprooted and fences destroyed. Nothing escaped the fury of Hurricane Andrew’s 175 mph winds — apart from one house — to the utter astonishment of the insurers who soon visited every resident in the area. What could be the reason for this, they wondered? There must surely be an explanation. There was!

As Hurricane Andrew roared through the area, sounding like a freight train, sweeping everything out of its way, one house remained unharmed. Not a pane of glass was broken, not even a plant was disturbed. The garden shed was untouched and the fence remained intact. Why was that? It was unheard of, given the catastrophic force of this fearsome hurricane. Del and Pat Hicks had prepared well; food and water was ready; they had already weathered four hurricanes. As the storm roared all around them, Del and Pat Hicks knew the authority that they had in the name of Jesus. They remembered how Moses had been instructed by the Lord that the blood of the lamb had to be applied to the doorposts of every Israelite home when the Angel of death devastated the land of Egypt, so they applied the blood of Jesus and quoted the wonderful promises of total protection in Psalm 91.

Earlier, Pat had walked through their yard laying hands on the trees, declaring that they were now under the shadow of the Almighty, and touching the shed and the walls of the house, placing every single thing under the protection of God. Fourteen family members gathered in their home. They could hear things crashing into the house. At one point it seemed that the house was about to break in two and the roof be blown away. They all laid hands on the walls, commanding them to stand strong and continue supporting the roof.

In the morning they saw that, although their shed door had been blown open, everything was still there. They had suffered no damage at all. Their property immediately became like a tourist attraction. Everyone in the area was dumbfounded! This family home alone was unscathed in a forty mile disaster zone. What a glorious testimony to the unfailing efficacy of confessing out loud the power-packed promises of Psalm 91! How God was glorified! May we all learn to follow their unwavering example of confessing out loud their faith in the Word of God!

The Angels were working overtime to protect this family who leaned entirely upon their God!

He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. Psalm 107:20 (NIV)

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.  Isaiah 53:5 (NIV)

                                                    NORMALIZING EVIL

Marcella Ward    August 10, 2022

According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, the definition of normal is “conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern : characterized by that which is considered usual, typical, or routine”  I am afraid that the “new normal” has been injecting itself into almost every area of our lives.

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.  Isaiah 5:20 NIV

You need look no further than the media, social media, educational institutions, etc. to see and listen to those who are “preaching” the woke agenda that is truly fulfilling the prophecy in Isaiah 5:20.  Those of us who grew up in the 40’s and 50’s never experienced any of this type of culture that we see going on now in our country as well as throughout the world.

How do we counteract and stand up for Biblical values in this day and age?  In my opinion, we need to be a voice in whatever sphere we are in.  Yes, some of us may have to pay a price but we need to stand or else that which we value will be taken away.  In Nazi Germany, the Church was silent.  There were only a few brave people such as Corrie ten Boom, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and others who risked their lives to stand up and help the Jewish people.

There is a story about a preacher in Germany who told the congregation to “sing louder” as the trains would go by with Jewish people being sent to death camps.   What about many preachers in the pulpits today who will not speak out about what is going on in our country? Fortunately there are some who are willing to speak out against evil.

There was a group of preachers who called themselves “The Black Robe Regiment.” “The term “Black Robe Regiment” referred not to a literal regiment of soldiers that wore black robes into battle but rather to the influential clergymen who promoted American independence and supported the military struggle against Britain. By encouraging the Patriot cause, those ministers helped muster critical support among members of their congregation—support the British begrudgingly acknowledged as vital to maintaining the colonists' frustrating resistance to British attempts to restore Parliamentary rule. In its implicit comparison of symbolic support to a specific body of troops, the term “Black Robe Regiment” is somewhat similar to the “fifth column” identified by the Spanish general Emilio Mola.”  (Teaching History.org  “The Black-Robed Regiment”)

Jesus was not afraid to speak out against the government and the religious establishment at that time.

Martin Luther-King Jr. was not afraid to speak out against prejudice.  Rosa Parks took a stand and refused to sit at the back of the bus.  There are millions of martyrs that have refused to deny their faith.  Are we ready to stand for our faith and stand for God’s Kingdom against the Kingdom of Darkness?

We need to be the Light in the world so that others will see God in us.  They will be attracted to us because we stand for our beliefs and do not back down when someone threatens us because we do not “bow” down to their ideology.  Meshach, Shadrach, and Abednego refused to bow down to the King’s image and were not overcome by the fire.  In fact, there was a fourth person with them in the fire-----Jesus Christ the Messiah!!

God will use us to transform this Kingdom of Darkness into the Kingdom of Light.  If we become complacent now, then there are those who will continue seeking to normalize evil and unless we act now as the Body of Christ, evil will win but we know that evil NEVER wins-------GOD ALWAYS WINS!!

This is one of the greatest times to be alive and each one of us was chosen to live in this hour.  We each have a mandate to do what God has called each one of us to do.  Each one of us has a role in this Great Awakening whether it be through prayer and intercession, ministry for Christ, political arena (school boards; community involvement at many levels; mayor; senator, congressman), etc.

Let’s be the ones who partnered with Almighty God to take down evil, call it what it is and bring back this nation from the depths of hell to a New Era--------An Awakening----A Revival across the land and the world.  Take your marching orders.  Rise up!!  HOLY SPIRIT ANOINT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US!

                                                               SPEAK LIFE

“Our words create our world and they are influenced by our thoughts. The words you speak have MAJOR power and they have the power to either speak life, abundance and success or lack, death and negativity.” (Please STOP Speaking Death Over Your Life! by Maria  June 9, 2015 Inspiration Blog Tools)

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.  Proverbs 18:21 NIV

Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. Proverbs 13:3 NIV

But no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.  James 3:8-9 NIV

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20 NIV

“A self-fulfilling prophecy is a prediction which manifests into reality as a result of an individual's beliefs and subsequent actions. These types of predictions can be both positive and negative and generally have a rippling effect. Self-fulfilling prophecies have been regularly depicted in fictional tales, stories and various forms of media. Even in the real world, the preconceived notions which we have about life, ourselves and what lies ahead can directly impact our experiences.” (What Is A Self-Fulfilling Prophecy? Psychology, Definition And More By: Gabrielle Seunagal Updated February 11, 2021)

There is a story about a woman who was suffering from fevers and the doctors could not figure out what was causing the fevers.  They came to find out that many times during the day/week she would respond to various unpleasant situations by saying, “That just burns me up!.”  Coming to this realization she decided to not say this anymore and behold, the fevers left her.  Now this is probably an extraordinary example but it does remind us that we need to be careful with what we say.

They say that angels act on the Word of God to fulfill their mission.  The converse is also the same with demons, who are fallen angels.  They listen to the negative things that come out of our mouth and are likely to be encouraged to bring something to pass.  I am not saying that every time we say something negative that we are “releasing” demons but it is something that we need to be aware of.  The very nature of God is life!  Jesus Christ died for our sins to give us eternal life with Him forever.

We also need to guard our thoughts.  For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…… Proverbs 23:7 If we have negative thoughts, then it will affect our actions.  “I won’t be hired to get that job.”  You go into the interview with a negative attitude and you probably won’t get hired.

Jesus spoke the Word.  Jesus is the Word.  He spoke to heal people.  He spoke life-giving words to everyone.  He spoke compassion where there was sorrow.  He spoke life to those who were dying and even spoke life to His friend Lazarus in the grave.  Jesus speaks life giving words to us now.  SPEAK LIFE!

Prayer For An Abundant Life

Thank You, Father, that Christ is the good Shepherd of the sheep and that in Him we have life and we have it in great abundance.

Thank You, that the Lord Jesus gave His life so that through Him, we might have newness of life and fullness of life, and thank You that He is the One that cares for each of His own and that there is nothing that can snatch us out of His hand.

I thank You that no matter what difficulties or dangers I face, the life I have in Christ is a superabundant life, with eternal consequences.

Thank You, that only in Christ does my earthly life have true meaning and I pray that the life that I now live in this body of flesh may be lived by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me. I pray that this life may be honouring to You, in thought word and deed. In Jesus' name I pray,

Amen.Source: https://prayer.knowing-jesus.com/Prayers-for-Life

                                                            FACING THE GIANTS

David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.  This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.  All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him.  Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.

So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.

David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine’s sword and drew it from the sheath. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword.  I Samuel 17:45-51 NIV

Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.  I Samuel 17:40 NIV  “The number 5 symbolizes God's grace, goodness and favor toward humans and is mentioned 318 times in Scripture. Five is the number of grace, and multiplied by itself, which is 25, is 'grace upon grace' (John 1:16). The Ten Commandments contains two sets of 5 commandments. The first five commandments are related to our treatment and relationship with God, and the last five concern our relationship with others humans.”  (Meaning of Numbers in the Bible The Number 5Ask a Question!   -   Newsletter Biblical Meaning of Numbers)

Facing the giants in our lives takes courage and faith just like David.  David knew, based on his own experiences, that God had been faithful and he encouraged himself in this.  But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it.  Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”  I Samuel 17:34-37 NIV

When we are standing up for our faith, especially in these times, we are standing against the world which is trying to dictate who we are supposed to be and what we are supposed to think and what we are supposed to say.  We need to be like David and face the giants not only in the world (media, politicians, etc.) but the personal giants that we face.  God does not operate in a spirit of fear but faith.  For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.  2 Timothy 1:7 NIV

David was given grace to face the giant.  He knew that with God he was an army and not alone. He chose 5 smooth stones to bring down the giant.  Why did he choose five stones?  It does not directly say in the Bible but some have deduced that Goliath had four brothers that David may have had to deal with.  Also, how would David know that the first stone would bring the giant down?  I believe it was God’s grace that brought the giant down in the first blow.

David used Goliath's own sword to kill the giant.  David used a stone and a sword.  How do we bring down the giants in our lives?  We use a stone, the cornerstone, Jesus Christ and the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God.  When my precious granddaughter, Anastasia, was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor on one of her kidneys while she was still in her mother’s womb, we, as well as many family and friends used the sword of the Spirit and the Name above all names, Jesus Christ to speak healing over her.  A few days after her birth, the biopsy indicated that the tumor was not cancerous and they were able to remove the kidney that had the tumor wrapped around it and she is now a lively, beautiful, five year old who is a delight and a testimony to God’s grace.  By the way, the name Anastasia in Greek means “Resurrection.”

Face your giants and use the Sword of the Spirit and the Name above all names, Jesus Christ to bring them down!  We are not alone.  We have been given the weapons for our warfare.  The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.  2 Corinthians 10:4 NIV

IS THE BEST YET TO COME?

Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden and were removed from the garden.  Satan thought he had won, but “the best was yet to come.”  Abraham obeyed God and went up to a mountain to slay his son, but God stopped him, because “the best was yet to come.”  Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt but they complained and went around the mountain for 40 years, but “the best was yet to come.”

Ruth pleaded before the King for her people even at the risk of death, but “the best was yet to come.”  Daniel was thrown into the lion’s den, but “the best was yet to come.”  Jesus was nailed to a cross, suffered and died for our salvation and the devil thought he had won, “but the best was yet to come!”

Are you tired of the bad news that is continually being broadcast from most networks?  Are you tired of hearing this?  Don’t let it get you down because “The best is yet to come!”  Where have we heard these words of encouragement before?  None other than Trump himself.  Could it be that God is using Trump’s voice to speak to us and give us encouragement?  We are at a very low time in our country where the spirit of fear is rampant and the truth is being stifled by many.  The false prophets (most of the people in the media) are “preaching” a message of false hope that a change or re-set in our government will solve all of our problems.

I would say, don’t be so quick.  It isn’t over until God says it is over!!  The best is yet to come.  We, as Christians, can have hope, through Christ, that as long as we keep our minds and hearts fixed on Him, we will get through this time of turmoil and have faith that God will do what only He can do.

There are many prophets that have said and are still saying that President Trump will have a second term.  Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.  Amos 3:7 (N9V) Does this mean that we need to look to President Trump being the “savior” of the world?  No, I think not, but God is and will be using him as well as other patriots to lead His people out of bondage.

People are waking up.  We are in probably the greatest awakening in all of history!  This is going to be the biggest and greatest harvest of souls of all time.

No, it’s not over until God says it is over!!  So don’t be disappointed.  You need to keep the faith.  The best IS yet to come.  God still has a plan for this country and the world.  There is going to be a revival, an awakening, coming that will be ushering in the great harvest before the Second Coming of Jesus!   God loves us so much that He wants everyone to join Him at the Banquet Table of the Bridegroom (Jesus) and His Church (The Bride of Christ).

I believe the Lord game me the following words on November 9, 2020:

“God is assembling an army, an army of believers to fight the good fight to be victorious and win the battle.  He is appointing generals, admirals, and sergeants.  He is booting out the chaff.  We are all called to this army.  Be ready, be ready for battle.  Be prepared, the best is yet to come.  There is never a battle without an enemy.  The enemy is the left, the evil one.  Be strong.  Be vigilant.  Be calm. For I give you the sword of My Spirit, My Word which will go before you.  So march on My people.  Be ready for the battle.  Know ye this, there can be no victory without the fight.  March on.  Be calm.  Be strong.  Watch and wait for My directions.”

I believe the Lord gave me the following words on November 29, 2020:

“There will be an avalanche against the enemy.  An avalanche of Biblical proportions.  One in which My power will know, no bounds.  So prepare for this for I will be opening the Red Sea to bring My people across and there will be an avalanche of My power that will overwhelm the enemies camp.  So rejoice and be exceedingly glad My children.  This is the decree of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.  Prepare; be My re-enforcers of the Kingdom which is to come and which is within you.  Be a force for the Kingdom of God.  For I AM WHO I AM and no demon in hell will prevent what I am doing now.  My voice has spoken and I will do it so prepare army of God.  PREPARE, PREPARE, PREPARE!!”

Is the best yet to come?  Yes I believe it is and it is in God’s Holy Word.  Evil has an expiration date and I believe we are living in the greatest time in history but it is up to us to stand for God and our freedoms!  Evil has to be constrained so that the Gospel of the Kingdom will be exemplified as well as preached before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.  Matthew 24:14 NIV

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.  No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.  Revelation 22:1-5 NIV

                                                             WHAT IS YOUR YES?

The Parable of the Two Sons

“What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’

“‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.   “Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go.   “Which of the two did what his father wanted?”

“The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.  Matthew 21:28-32 NIV

The first son was very willing to comply and in my opinion, he said yes because he wanted to impress his father.  The other automatically said no and in my opinion probably thought it over and even though he did not want to go to work, he did it because of his love for his father.

That happens many times in our lives.  I can remember the time when I was asked to do something at a church I was attending and I seemed to be the only one being asked and I was growing tired of being the only other person available but I always said yes.  I remember the Lord reminding me of the parable of the two sons and even though reluctant, I said yes.

I also remember my father saying yes to the needs of his family when he left El Paso because of no prospects of finding a job and moved with his wife and four children to Arizona trusting in God to provide. God came through because someone from the Customs Agency in Nogales, Arizona, came looking for him and he received the best job he ever had and he retired from that agency many years later.

The Rich and the Kingdom of God

Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”  “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” “Which ones?” he inquired.  Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother, and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”

“All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.  Matthew 19:16-22 NIV

I have often wondered what would have happened to this man if he had said “yes” to Jesus. How dramatically would his life have changed?  Would he have become a disciple winning many, many people to Christ?  At that instant, his turning away from the Lord’s invitation, could have made a tremendous impact on his life but that, we will never know.

What about Mary, the Mother of Jesus?  What about her yes?   “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.  Luke 1:38 NIV   What would have happened if she had said, “no”?

What about the greatest yes since the beginning of time?   For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants.  For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.  Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. Hebrews 2:16-18

What about each individual apostle who said yes to the call of Jesus?  Did Jesus call the perfect?  No, be He equips the called.

What about Peter’s yes?  Did he say yes right away?  No, he denied Jesus three times but later  repented and Jesus restored Peter by anointing and appointing him to lead the flock.

Abraham said yes when God told him to leave his land. The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.  Genesis 12:1 NIV   Moses said yes when God asked him to go back to Egypt and lead God’s people into the Promised Land.  So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” Exodus 3:10 NIV Ruth said yes to follow her mother-in-law Naomi.   But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Ruth 1:6 NIV

Esther was given a choice to save the Jews from annihilation.  For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai:  “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”  Esther 4:14-16

Saul and all the Israelites were afraid of Goliath but David said “yes” to defeating the giant.   David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head.  I Samuel 17:45-46 NIV

Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Corrie ten Boom, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and many modern day heroes answered the call to say “yes” to freedom and their God-given rights.

Every “yes” has a ripple effect.  What is your yes?  Yes, I will follow the Word of God.  Yes, I will stand for Christ.  Yes, I will walk in the Spirit of God.  Yes, I will seek the truth at all times.  Yes, I will stand for freedom and my rights that were given to me by my Creator.

WHAT IS YOUR YES?

If your “yes” is a prayer for Salvation or you want to recommit your life to Jesus, pray this prayer.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank You for dying on the cross for my sin. Please forgive me. Come into my life. I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Now, help me to live for You the rest of my life.
In the name of Jesus, I pray.
Amen
